WFRP Maps and Gazetteers

I'm back at it again. The maps below are the most current versions I've drawn. Older maps can be found under Archives.

WFRP1e Maps

Araby
I included a number of other settlements as I though Araby should be far more populated than WFB4/5 seemed to imply. This also provides more role-playing opportunity.
Araby (geopolitical)

Border Princes
This map was redrawn for Strike-to-Stun #4. There are quite a few changes from the previous two versions.

Bretonnia
This is to the same scale as the old map and I have re-named certain locations to match WFB5 Bretonnia. I've also included a number of other settlements from "The Voyage South," a short story that appeared in the anthology "Red Thirst."

Dwarf Realms
This map was drawn to show the Dwarf lands outside the Worlds Edge Mountains. It was the basis for the map that appeared in the WFRP Dwarf book.

Estalia
This map was redrawn for Strike-to-Stun #4. There are some changes from the original map I drew.

The Empire
The Empire (geopolitical)

Karaz Ankor
This map of the Imperial Dwarf lands of the Worlds Egde Mountains was the basis of the version that appeared in the Dwarf book.

Kislev
This map was redrawn for Strike to Stun #5. I decided to render the map so that it's closer to that which appears in the WFRP tome rather than SRiK.

New World
I prefer a New World more consistent with the limited WFRP description than the wasteland envisioned by WFB4's Dark Elf army book.

Norsca
This was a map that I altered to add elements from GW's "Hordes of Chaos". This was submitted for inclusion for the Dwarf book, but didn't make it for some reason.

Tilea
This map was redrawn for Strike-to-Stun #4 and incorporates a number of locations from GW's Dogs of War supplement for WFB5.

Wasteland
I drew this map for Anthony Ragan to use in the Marienburg sourcebook. It was used as the basis for the map that did appear.

Provinces of The Empire

Averland

Hochland
This one was done with input from the Bergsburg Council.

Middenland
I decided that Middenland should have a lot more settlements than seemed to be indicated by official WFRP material. This map appeared in Strike-to-Stun #6.

Moot

Nordland
In drawing this map, I used elements from Tim Eccles' "A Private War" as well as input from the author himself and Simon Beckford.

Ostermark
I used elements from Tim Eccles' "A Private War: Homeward Bound" in creating this map.

Ostland
As with the Nordland map, I used elements from Tim Eccles' "A Private War" as well as input from the author himself and Simon Beckford.

Reikland
I had some help placing the towns described in GW's "Wine of Dreams" novel on this map from Arne Dam. This map appeared in Strike-to-Stun #6.

Stirland
This map includes locations described in "Monastic Orders in the Old World," written by the Server Goddess.

Sudenland
This is the Sudenland of first edition WFRP. In addition, I've added the location of Karak Hirn for reference.

Sylvania
This version replaces what was drawn for use in Strike to Stun #3. The original map was not done in the same scale as the other maps, so I decided to redo the map of Sylvania to be consistent.

Talabecland
In making this map, I incorporated a number of locations from various scenarios that appeared in Warpstone.

Wissenland
This is the Wissenland of first edition WFRP. In addition, I've added some of the nearby Dwarf settlements in the Grey Mountains.

Cities of The Empire

Altdorf
This map appeared in Strike-to-Stun #6. Unlike that map, this one is scanned at 300 dpi so that it will look better when printed. The Key to this map can be found in the Article site.

Pfeildorf
This map was developed for the Pfeildorf project. This version does not include numbers or letters to designate location descriptions. Such a detailed map and key appears in the Pfeildorf sourcebook.

Settlements in the Dwarf Kingdoms

Karak Hirn
This map was developed for the forthcoming Karak Hirn sourcebook that I have been developing as part of my Gathering Darkness campaign. It only encompasses the exterior of the Dwarfhold. The interior of Karak Hirn is still a work in progress.

WFRP2e Maps

The Empire

The Empire, 2e
I wanted to keep this map of the Empire relatively free from clutter. So, it only shows the four largest cities, a few of the major roads, and most of the large rivers. The purpose is to show the grand scale of the land and leave the details to the provincial maps below.

Provinces of The Empire

The compilation of the following maps was made challenging by the fact that there are differences between the the various maps that have been produced by Green Ronin/Black Industries since the release of WFRP2e. What makes matters worse is that the large map in Sigmar's Heirs often doesn't match the descriptions contained in the text. One example is the placement of Hergig which the text states is on the Wolf's Run river while the map shows it on Old Forest Road. Another example is the Moot which the map in the WFRP2e corebook and text of Sigamr's Heirs place where the waters of Aver Reach and Blue Reach mingle to form the River Aver (as it does in WFRP1e) as opposed to the new placement in the east. In addition, the map in Sigmar's Heirs shifted other settlements from their historic placement, such as Krugenheim. These movements, which are reflected in the gazetteers, incorrectly moved the nearby settlements, such as Kiel in Ostermark. In the maps and gazetteers that I will be uploading to this site, I will defer to the descriptions in the text of Sigmar's Heirs as these were written by the author based on the provincial boundaries that appeared on page 215 of the WFRP2e corebook. Moreover, I am using the map from WFRP1e as my base. The scale of the Empire as depicted in Sigmar's Heirs makes the land roughly 2/3 the size as that depicted in the original sourcebook. I prefer a larger Empire.

Averland, 2e

Hochland, 2e
In this map, I have placed Hergig on Wolf's Run to match the text from Sigmar's Heirs rather than the map in the book. Moreover, I've returned Bergsburg to its proper place on the map.

Middenland, 2e
Like other maps, this one differs from the one in Sigmar's Heirs. Since the town of Schoppendorf continues to get shifted around, I decided to plce it back in its WFRP1e position. For those the SoC map, Schoppendorf should be place where the village of Estorf is on my Hochland map. If one prefers the map from SH, then one could move Schoppendorf to where Harsum is located. IN addition, I also stuck to the name of "Mirror Moors" rather than "Midden Moors" which is not only consistent with older WFRP maps, but also appears on the cover of SH.

Mootland, 2e
I need to add two more bits about my placement of The Moot: (1) it is consistent with the placement shown on the cover of Sigmar's Heirs and (2) there is no evidence that GW will go along with the change in borders that GR/BI first shifted in the GM Pack and then altered again in Sigmar's Heirs.

Nordland, 2e
I decided to leave Salzenmund in the same location as in WFRP1e rather than move it further north on the Middenheim-Erengrad Road. Part of the reason is that was the placement I used in the maps I provided Anthony Ragan for Sigmar's Heirs. If one prefers the location in WFRP2e, then place Salzenmund where Luftberg is situated. This version includes the locations from that GW WFB6 campaign as well as many of those detailed in Tim Eccles' APW. There are also locations from the Sea of Claws article written by Ryan Wileman for Warpstone and from a scenario printed in that same fanzine.

Ostermark, 2e
Despite the movement of some settlements from Ostermark to the Talabecland gazetteer by GR/BI, I have returned some of the settlements Tim Eccles described in his "A Private War" (APW) series back to Ostermark.

Ostland, 2e
Ferlangen was moved further south as indicated by Storms of Chaos. This version includes the locations from that GW WFB6 campaign as well as many of those detailed in APW and Ryan Wileman's article.

Reikland, 2e

Stirland, 2e
Actually, this would be western & central Stirland in order to give myself more room to work.

Sudenland, 2e
Well, technically, Sudenland only exists as the part of Wissenland east of the River Soll in WFRP2e. Still, I've included it here for those GMs that prefer a free Sudenland. There's even a gazetteer for it below.

Sylvania, 2e
Or, more properly referred to as Eastern Stirland.

Talabecland, 2e

Wissenland, 2e

Area Maps of the Larger Settlements of The Empire

Altdorf and nearby villages
This map covers the area around Altdorf, including its villages. It can be used for both 1st and 2nd edition WFRP.

Middenheim and nearby villages.
This map covers the area surrounding Middenheim and differs a bit from the one appearing in the Middenheim sourcebook. It can be used for both editions.

Staatstadt of Nuln
Like the Altdorf map, this covers the area surrounding Nuln. For use in both editions.

Pfeildorf and Barony of Toppenheim
This map that covers the villages near Pfeildorf, once the capital of Sudenland.

Staatstadt of Talabheim
This map covers the area of the Freistadt of Talabheim and is consistent with the map in Warpstone. For use in both editions of WFRP.

Other Area Maps of The Empire and bordering realms

Karak Hirn kingdom
This map is developed from the revised Road to Karak Hirn map as I shifted it to the east and south to encompass the rest of the Dwarf kingsom. The map was developed for the Karak Hirn sourcebook. The map includes the roads leading to that Dwarfhold. As there are many new settlements on this map, I have added entries to the Karak Hirn gazetteer.

Karak Hirn and the Hornberg
This map covers the exterior of the Dwarfhold of Karak Hirn and he immediate surrounding area. This is one of the maps in the Karak Hirn sourcebook.

Reikland, southern region
The map of the southern portion of Reikland has been developed for the forthcoming The Gathering Darkness: Conquering Darkness adventure. It differs from the map that appeared in WFRP1e "Death on the Reik" publication in that I tried to remain consistent with the Empire map from the corebook. Most of the villages from the DotR book appear on this map and all are listed in the Reikland gazetteer.

Sudenland, central region
This map has been developed for the forthcoming The Gathering Darkness: Grim Pursuits adventure. It includes many of the settlements in the central portion of Sudenland. Entries to the Sudenland and Wissenland (2nd edition) gazetteers have been updated.

Sudenland, eastern region
This map has been developed for the forthcoming Wissenland sourcebook adventure. It includes many of the settlements in the eastern portion of Sudenland. Entries to the Sudenland and Wissenland (2nd edition) gazetteers will be updated in the future.

Sudenland, northern region
This map has been developed for the forthcoming The Gathering Darkness: Grim Pursuits adventure. It includes many of the settlements in the northern portion of Sudenland. Entries to the Sudenland and Wissenland (2nd edition) gazetteers have been updated.

Wissenland, central region
Like the other regional maps of the province, the map of the northern portion of Wissenland has been developed for the forthcoming The Gathering Darkness: Conquering Darkness adventure as well as the Wissenland sourcebook. It includes a number of newly listed settlements in the northern portion of the province. Entries to the Wissenland (2nd edition) gazetteer will be updated in the future.

Wissenland, northern region
The map of the northern portion of Wissenland has been developed for the forthcoming The Gathering Darkness: Conquering Darkness adventure as well as the Wissenland sourcebook. It includes many of the settlements in the central portion of the province as well as the Dwarf settlements in the Grey Mountains. Entries to the Wissenland (2nd edition) gazetteer will be updated in the future.

Wissenland, southern region
This map has been developed for the forthcoming The Gathering Darkness: Conquering Darkness adventure as well as the Wissenland sourcebook. It includes many of the settlements in the southern portion of Wissenland. Entries to the Wissenland (2nd edition) gazetteer will be updated in the future.

Other Realms

Kislev, 2e
This new version of Kislev could also be used for WFRP1e. It's chief difference is that I'm using the map from the 1st edition as the base rather than SRiK. In addition, the map includes the locations from that GW WFB6 campaign as well as many of those detailed in Tim Eccles' APW campaign. his Crossing the Lynsk article for Warpstone and Ryan Wileman's Sea of Claws article.

Norsca, 2e
This v2 version of Norsca is not much different than the other one I have one this site other than I cleaned it up and added the place names and towns that appeared in Ryan Wileman's Sea of Claws article for Warpstone.

Wasteland, 2e
This new version of Wasteland is pretty much the same as the map that appears in "Marienburg: Sold down the River" with additional settlements.

WFRP1e Gazetteers

The population figures I've used in the following gazetteers are consistent with the definition that appears in Middenheim: City of Chaos, page 9. This is some controversy as to what the meaning of the text, but I'm taking it to represent the number of people who live in tax-paying households. One could safely assume that the population figures do not take into account transients as well as those exempt from direct taxation. The latter includes - but are not limited to - nobility, their households, and certain members of the clergy (e.g., high level Sigmarite priests in specific provinces). Thus, the "true" size of the population is whatever the GM chooses.

The lists of settlements in the various gazetteers are not meant to be an exhaustive list. For those that encompass a "country", I tried to limit the settlements to small towns (pop 350+) with few exceptions. I went further with the provincial maps of the Empire and included many villages and other small settlements. These gazetteers are as complete as the individual GM decides them to be.

Empire

Middenheim
This gazetteer is essentially lifted from the Middenheim book

Nordland
I worked with Tim Eccles and Ryan Wileman to expand this from that which appeared in the Middenheim book.

Nuln
From "Death on the Reik"

Ostland
Working with Tim Eccles and Ryan Wileman, this provides some details for use in "A Private War."

Reikland
From "Death on the Reik" with the addition of Frederheim.

Sylvania
I created this for Strike-to-Stun #3

Talabheim
I developed this for Warpstone's Talabheim project

Other Lands

Border Princes
This was revised for Strike to Stun #4

Estalia
This was revised for Strike to Stun #4

Kislev
This was developed for Strike to Stun #5, but did not appear for some inexplicable reason.

Tilea
This was revised for Strike to Stun #4

WFRP2e Gazetteers

The population figures in the cities and large towns have been increased over what had been appearing in the WFRP1e gazetteers. I've also added a lot of entries for the settlements that appear on my WFRP2e maps and a few that do not. The thing to keep in mind is that the gazetteers are not meant to be all inclusive of Imperial settlements, unless the GM wants them to be.

In addition, there are some small variations in the gazetteers on my site compared to those printed in Sigmar's Heirs. I point out these differences in the description accompanying the individual links.

The Empire

Averland

Hochland

Middenland
In developing this gazetteer from that which I provided Anthony Ragan for "Sigmar's Heirs," I realized that the towns that I had placed near Grimminhagen in that document I had placed elsewhere on my map. To resolve the dilemma, I re-worked the Middenland gazetteer to be consistent with my map and changed the names of the vilages around Grimminhagen.

The Moot

Nordland
This gazetteer includes a number of places that have been mentioned in the scenarios written by Tim Eccles.

Ostermark
This gazetteer also includes a number of places that have been mentioned in the scenarios written by Tim Eccles.

Ostland
Yet another gazetteer that includes a number of places mentioned in the Tim Eccles' scenarios.

Reikland

Stirland
This gazetteer includes entries for Sylvania.

Sudenland
Revised 7/10/08. All the information in this gazetteer also appears in the Wissenland one. I've only put it here to make it easier for GM's that prefer a separate province for Sudenland.

Talabecland
I thought changing the Grand Duchess' name from Krieglitz-Untermensch to Krieglitz-Untern was disrespectful to WFRP tradition (despite the bad joke), so this expanded version of what I provided to Anthony Ragan for Sigmar's Heirs has the Grand Duchess of Talabheim's correct family name.

Wissenland
Revised 7/10/08. In this gazetteer, I have corrected the spelling of the Elector Countess Emmanuelle's family name. It was incorrect in the gazetteer I provided Anthony Ragan and the GR editors didn't quite get it right. In addition, I decided to stick with the first name of Etelka for the Baroness Toppenheimer from WFRP1e. The name of "Molly" given by the GR editors just didn't do it for me.

Other Lands

Karak Hirn
This revised gazetteer was developed for the Dwarf Kingdon of Karak Hirn. It will be included in the Karak Hirn sourcebook.
